The Medical Centre
The Medical Centre is for the use of military personnel only and is situated in building 11 of Claro Barracks. The duties of Medical Officer are shared between Dr Charles Fletcher (usually Mon/Tue/Fri) and Dr Ingram (usually Wed/Thur).

Opening Hours
Monday - Thursday   07.45 - 12.30
13.30 - 17.00
Friday 07.45 - 13.30

Sick Parade
Sick Parade is at 07.45 daily Monday to Friday. You may arrange an appointment by contacting the medical centre before 8.00. If you need to report sick after sick parade, you should report to your Squadron Sergeant Major who should complete a F MED 566 in red. You should then report to the Medical Centre. If you wish to report sick out of normal working hours, you should report to the guardroom. The duty officer will then initiate contact with the duty doctor by ringing the surgery number (692337).

Immunisations
Personnel will be called forward for their normal military immunisations. However if you are travelling or posted abroad you should contact the Medical Centre giving at least six weeks notice so that a full vaccination program can be made for the respective country.

Medical Checkups
All military personnel undergo regular medical checkups in accordance with current regulations. Should personnel feel the need for further examination they should contact the Medical Centre on extension 4281 to discuss their individual needs. This could be regular weight, blood pressure checks etc. Arrangements can be made for female personnel to be seen by a female doctor, and cervical smears etc can be arranged through the Medical Centre with the main surgery. A chaperone is available if requested.

Opticians
Personnel who require consultations with an optician should enquire at the Medical Centre. Arrangements will be made for an eye test with the usual opticians. Those who require service spectacles and/or respirator lenses should then request the Medical Centre to indent for them as required.

Home visits
It is expected that ill personnel will attend the Medical Centre, however those who are totally housebound may receive a home visit from the doctor on call.

Pharmacy

The Medical Centre no longer has its own pharmacy, and prescriptions are outsourced to Lloyds in Knaresborough.  This may mean that prescriptions issued in morning sick parade are not available for collection until the early afternoon.  The medical centre does have a small stock of essential drugs which can be issued if it is too long to wait for the delivery from Lloyds.

If a specific drug is not available, every effort will be made to get it as soon as possible. If you have been given a prescription by a civilian doctor and paid a prescription charge at a civilian pharmacy, you should ask for a form FP57 and return this to the Medical Centre. The prescription fee will then be reimbursed through the pay section. Repeat prescriptions are available but the medical officer may need to see you unless stated otherwise in your medical file.

Hospital appointments
Patients are usually referred for specialist advice to the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, however in certain situations, other civilian hospitals may be used. Transport leaves the Medical Centre at 08.45 and 13.15 daily Monday to Thursday and 8.45 on Friday for DKMH Catterick. If you have an appointment before 09.30, alternate arrangements should be made.

Complaints
Should there be any reason for complaint the procedure should be as follows:
1 Inform the Practice Manager who will then advise you of the best way to air your complaint.
2 If necessary, the complaint should be made in writing to the Commanding Officer.

In an Emergency
In an emergency, dial 999 for a civilian ambulance. Remember if the emergency is on camp to notify the guardroom to allow access for the ambulance. In the event that a doctor is required urgently, the duty doctor can be contacted through the orderly officer.
